Flight Preparation

Here is a checklist of actions to implement before flight.

Before The Flight

Refer here to prepare for a flight.

Power Up

On the Taranis, select manual mode and then power up.

Select Flight Deck screen.

Power up Phantom

- Hold the aircraft stationary while the pixhawk does calibration,

- Check for 2 power supply LEDS,

- Check GPS lock: Blue flashing LED,

- Press button to enable servos. Check control surfaces respond to elevator & aileron sticks,

- Hold the rudder stick to the right to enable the throttle.

Check camera gimbal holds camera steady during pitch and roll.

On the Taranis, enable the throttle (SF↓). Check the throttle turns the prop.

With the Taranis in manual mode, check that roll and pitch sticks move the elevens correctly.

With the Taranis in FBWA mode, roll and pitch the aircraft and check the elevens move to stabilise.

On the Taranis Flight Deck display, check the following.

- Battery voltage is fully charged, >15.0V, (4s battery),

- Artificial horizon responds to aircraft roll and tilt,

- Heading responds to aircraft direction,

- Altitude responds to lifting the aircraft,

- Air speed responds to blowing the pitot tube.

Video Transmitter

- Turn on,

- Check reception.

Video Camera

- Turn on,

- Start recording.

 

Launch from the Catapult

Add pretension to cords.

Arm the catapult with both cords.

Attach the catapult loop to the aircraft hook. Take up the slack.

To launch the aircraft, press the foot pedal until the aircraft launches.

After the aircraft clears the end of the catapult, increase the throttle and climb away.
