This flight is a test of a complete autopilot controlled flight.

 

It includes takeoff, one circuit, with seven waypoints, landing approach and landing.

Current

This graph shows altitude in meters (red) and the current in milliamps (green).

 

While taking off, the current peaked at about 25 amps, dropped to about 5 amps while cruising and was less than one amp while descending when the motor was at minimum throttle. The ESC is rated at 30 amps so even at max climb rate the current draw is well within the ESC rating.

During takeoff, the aircraft maintains a constant heading. When the aircraft reaches 20 m after take off, the takeoff is complete so there is a dip in current. The aircraft then changes course and starts to climb to the first waypoint at 50m.

 

 

Total Charge

This graph shows altitude in meters (red) and the total current in milliamp-hours (green).

 

This shows the total battery charge used for the flight was about 190 mAh. Not much out of a 3000mAh battery.

 

Airspeed

This graph shows altitude in meters (red) and the airspeed in meters/sec. (green).

 

The airspeed peaks at about 18 m/s (64kph) and drops to about 12 m/s (43kph).

The cruising throttle setting is 55%, set in the APM parameter list.

The airspeed is maintained even during the descent and drops to zero after landing and rolling to a stop.

 

 

Pitch

This graph shows altitude in meters (green) and elevator control value in percent (red).

 

While cruising at a constant altitude of about 50 meters, the elevator value was about 5% above neutral. This means the aircraft was slightly nose heavy and a small amount of up elevator was needed to fly level.
