Flight Records

Each flight is documented with a variety of files. These are the types of files.

 

  • Flight Plan. This is a file created on the ‘Mission Plan’ page of the PC software ‘Mission Planner’ and transferred to the APM before the flight. To view the flight plan, run ‘Mission Planner’, select the ‘Mission Plan’ page and load the file by clicking the ‘Load WP File’ button.

     The waypoint display is displayed on the map.

     The command list is displayed below the map.

    The elevation graph is generated from the flight plan on the ‘Flight Plan’ page using Google Maps topological data. It shows the planned elevation of the aircraft during the flight and the elevation of the ground under the path of the aircraft.

 

  • Dataflash Log. This is a ‘.log’ type of file created by the APM during the flight and is downloaded to ‘Mission Planner’ after the flight.

            It contains information like that in a  ‘black box’ recorder in a full size aircraft.

            Flight data in this file can be displayed on graphs in ‘Mission Planner’.

             A ‘.kmz’ file is generated from this ‘.log’ file which can be displayed in Google Maps.

  • Telemetry Log. This is a ‘tlog’ type of file created by ‘Mission Planner’ from data received from the aircraft via the radio telemetry link during the flight.

            Flight data in this file can also be displayed on graphs in ‘Mission Planner’.

  • Onboard Video. Video taken by a camera on the aircraft.

 

  • Observer Video. Video taken by a camera on the ground.
