OpenTx - Control Flow

The control flow diagram shows how the screens are grouped and how to navigate from one screen to another.

To download this diagram, left click on it to display the pdf, then save it to a file.

The Menu, Page and Enter (ENT) keys are used to navigate between screens. Note that a short press (SP) navigates to a different screen than a long press (LP). A short press is a press and release within about half a second. Releasing after half a second is a long press.

Power Up Screens

BootLoader Screen

To display the BootLoader screen, push the two horizontal trim switches towards each other while turning power on to the Taranis radio. The following options are available.

  Write Firmware,

  Restore EEPROM,

Plug in a USB cable to communicate with a personal computer.

Write Firmware

This option writes versions of OpenTX firmware that have been stored on the SD Card in the FIRMWARES folder.

Restore EEPROM

This option transfers a copy of the EEPROM stored on the SD card in the EEPROMS folder, back into the EEPROM.

The EEPROM stores all of the transmitter settings, calibration settings and all model data.

To back up an EEPROM, refer to the Version screen.

USB Cable Communication

With a USB cable connected from the USB socket in the back of the Taranis to a USB socket in a personal computer, files can be transferred to and from the Taranis using Windows Explorer or the OpenTX Companion software.

Splash Screen

This is normally the first screen shown after power on. The duration that this screen is shown for is set by the ‘Splash screen’ parameter in the Radio Setup screen. The default duration is 4 seconds.

The image displayed is ‘Splash.bmp’ in the [BMP] folder on the SD card.

The audio file is ‘tada.wav’ which is stored in the ]SOUNDS] / [en] / [SYSTEM] folder on the SD card. This audio file says ‘Welcome to OpenTX’.

Throttle Warning

At power up, if the throttle is not at minimum, and the Throttle Status box is ticked in the Preflight Checks in the Model Set Up screen, then the throttle warning screen is shown.

The audio file is ‘thralert.wav’ which is stored in the [SOUNDS] / [en] / [SYSTEM] folder on the SD card. This audio file says ‘Throttle Warning’.

Switch Warning

The switch positions when a model is loaded, including at power up, are compared to the customised switch positions set in the Preflight Checks – Switch Positions in the Model Set Up screen. If any switch is not in the required position, the audio track ‘Switch Warning’ is played. The default position for all switches is up.

Model Notes

If a text file with the model name has been created and put on the SD card in the MODELS folder and the ‘Display Checklist’ parameter under the ‘Preflight Checks’ has been ticked on the Model Setup screen, then the text file is displayed.
